February 1873
Cabooses 9 & 10 arrive from Kimball.
No color mentioned.
#10 worked in caboose and third class passenger service at the end of freight trains.
Before 1891, the car was converted into a full
coach.
The side doors were removed and the passenger compartment extended through the
former baggage compartment.
The car was referred to as a miner's car.
In White's essay on
Kimball in the #138 Railroad History.
He reports the original specifications for Caboose 9 & 10.
The truck specification as "of the kind used in the flat
cars with double brakes, hand wheels at each end of car."
The Kimball trucks didn't work, keep getting off the track.
New trucks were
constructed in March 1873.
Wood frame from Whitney of Reno and Pedestals from
Fulton Foundry in Virginia City.
